Designed for efficiency and comfort, from hand-loomed raw cotton textiles, the Sakura Bloom Scout is made to last for years. These ergonomic carriers have an adjustable custom fit. They also come with a detachable sun hood/shade. Their stylish design makes it a fashionable option for both moms and dads.
It’s compact and foldable, making it easy to throw in the diaper bag and go. Plus, there are several different fabrics/materials to choose from, let’s take a look.
- Basics Linen
Made from the softest linens and hand-dyed. This carrier is more of a floppy/comfy feel. There are 7 color options with this fabric, and the straps are also fabric.
- Chambray Linen
The Chambray linen collection is woven from two contrasting colors of smooth, fine linen fibers creating a sleek, lightweight textile. This fabric style comes with 6 color choices. It has butterscotch leather carrying straps. This one has a bit more structure due to the leather, making it a good balance of soft/comfy for the infant years, and solid for the toddler years.
- Eyelet Linen
Soft, Ivory linen Eyelet over their basics linen. This is a stunning baby carrier. I do worry about the practicality of eyelet material though for something that gets a lot of use and needs to be washed often.
The eyelet linen design is available with or without leather straps. There are also 4 color options with this fabric.
- Seek Raw Cotton
Made from soft hand-loomed materials, this fabric is soft and breathable. You can get the seek raw cotton Scout in one of 14 colors and it comes with butterscotch leather straps.
What is “seek raw cotton,” you ask? No idea! I did a google search to get some more details about it and came up short.
- Simple Silk
This was the first Scout carrier made by Sakura Bloom and it comes in 5 shades of dupioni silk. Moms can choose butterscotch leather or fabric straps.
Longevity of the Sakura Bloom Scout
The Sakura Bloom carrier is good for babies 7-45 pounds and you can wear it on your front or back. It will last you from infancy to toddlerhood, saving you the time and money you would spend buying a separate carrier for each stage of development. This is a huge plus! BUT, big BUT, I do worry about the delicacy of the fabrics and their longevity. More on this in the “care” section.
Cost
The Sakura Bloom Scout is definitely not cheap, they will cost you between $180-$268 depending on materials. This makes it one of the most expensive carriers on the market.
However, it is meant to last for the duration of your babywearing days, and if you are planning to have more than one child, it may be worth the investment. It is one of the most stylish, unique carriers I have ever seen, and the design definitely justifies a portion of the high price.
Safety
There is concern over babywearing when it comes to baby’s hips and making sure carriers offer proper support. All Sakura Bloom baby carriers are certified hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute and have been lab-tested to comply with all current US government, ASTM, and CPSIA safety standards. This certification is important to me as a mom, so it’s a big PRO in my eye.
How to Care for the Sakura Bloom Scout
These carriers are not machine washable, in fact, the Sakura Bloom website has an entire web page with video tutorials dedicated to helping you care for your Scout. At the steep price point, I would definitely want something that had the convenience of an easy-care routine. What busy mama has time to frequently wash a baby carrier with specific cleaning products? Not this one!
However, if you don’t mind cleaning or won’t wear the carrier often this is not an issue.
Support from Company
As I mentioned before, this is a really sweet company, and they are very supportive of their baby-wearing mamas. They even offer free consultations for babywearing and choosing the right carrier. They also offer a lifetime warranty on manufacturer defects (not normal wear and tear). Customer service is important to me, and they’ve got this nailed down.
Recycle Program
The company has a recycling program, how 2021 is that of them?! They offer a gift card for a future purchase if you’d like to recycle your used carrier. A unique and thoughtful touch.
Here Are My Final Thoughts on the Sakura Bloom Scout
As a mom-of-three I can’t scream it loud enough, a reliable baby carrier is your best friend during your baby’s first year. Finding one that works for your body, your budget, and your baby can take some time. But don’t give up!
While I love the story, sleek design, and customer service of the Sakura Bloom Scout, I am not convinced this is the way to go. Personally, I started with a $25 ring sling from Amazon (I highly recommend this one!) and then moved on to a more structured carrier when my babies were about 5-6 months and spent significantly less on both than I would have on a Scout. Also, the fact that the care of the Scout is so involved makes it an impractical choice, and a deal-breaker for me.
That being said, I am sure it is the right choice for many other mamas and I hope my review has helped you to decide if that’s you! I am excited to see where this brand goes and what other products they will offer in the future.
