What We Do: Health, Maternity, and Family Planning

**What We Do:**

**Health, Motherhood, and Family Planning**

**What we do**

The number of people without access to essential health services has fallen by more than half since 2000, thanks in part to the efforts of UNFPA. UNFPA works with governments and partners to strengthen health systems, provide essential reproductive health services, and promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. UNFPA also works to ensure that everyone has access to quality family planning information and services so that they can make informed choices about their reproductive health.

**Our work focuses on four key areas:**

1. **Sexual and reproductive health:** UNFPA provides a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, antenatal care, safe delivery, and postpartum care. UNFPA also works to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, including sexual violence.

2. **Maternal health:** UNFPA works to improve maternal health outcomes by providing access to quality antenatal and postnatal care, as well as by promoting safe childbirth practices. UNFPA also works to reduce the incidence of maternal deaths and disabilities.

3. **Family planning:** UNFPA provides access to a wide range of family planning methods, including condoms, oral contraceptives, and long-acting reversible contraceptives. UNFPA also works to promote family planning as a human right and to empower women and men to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

4. **Gender equality and women’s empowerment:** UNFPA works to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in all areas of its work. UNFPA believes that women and men should have equal access to health services, education, and economic opportunities. UNFPA also works to end gender-based violence and to promote women’s participation in decision-making.
