New Maternity and Babies Advice Line launched

A new NHS helpline is being launched to give parents personalized advice on maternity care and their baby’s health and development, offering expert advice from registered nurses and midwives. The free phone service, called the Maternity and Babies Advice Line, will give parents access to health professionals seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm. It will take questions about pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, baby care, and mental health and wellbeing.

Parents-to-be and all new parents will be able to call the line to speak to a nurse or midwife for expert advice about their own and their baby’s health and wellbeing, or to get help with any concerns they have. The service will provide information on a range of topics, including:

• Pregnancy and labor – including what to expect, how to cope with common ailments and how to prepare for the birth

• Baby care – including feeding, bathing, sleeping, and development

• Mental and emotional health – including advice on coping with anxiety, depression and other mental health concerns

The service will be staffed by a team of registered nurses and midwives, who have all worked in the NHS for many years and have a wealth of experience supporting pregnant women and new parents. The nurses and midwives will be able to provide information and advice on a range of topics, including:
