Meet the Philips AVENT Anti-colic bottles

As an exclusive formula-feeding mama, I was excited that Philips AVENT released its Anti-colic bottles in time for my baby to test it out. My second son has been very colicky in his first few weeks, so the fact that these bottles are clinically proven to reduce colic and discomfort* made this mama want to jump for joy. And I am happy to report that they didn’t disappoint!

The Philips AVENT Anti-colic BPA-free bottles are compatible with the existing Classic+ bottle parts so there’s no need to switch everything over, you can simply integrate the new Anti-colic bottles into your stash.

Upon receiving the bottles, I washed them in the dishwasher, and they were all ready to go. With only 3 simple parts (not including the keep-it-clean travel cap), these bottles make middle of the night feedings quick and efficient. When my son is screaming for formula at 3AM, there isn’t much time to handle a lot of little bottle parts, so I appreciated the simplicity of these bottles.

The Philips AVENT Anti-colic bottles are made with an integrated anti-colic valve; this valve directs the air in the bottle away from the baby’s stomach, which in turn, reduces air ingestion (a frequent cause of colic, discomfort, gas, spit-up, and burping!). With this special valve, my baby can drink his bottle with more ease and comfort. With the different nipple flow rates to choose from, parents can find what works best for their baby – and change nipple sizes as the baby grows as well.

My son had no trouble gulping down his formula with the new bottles. When he was finished, instead of his usual fussiness, he laid back on my lap and fell asleep quietly. It was truly a miracle to us, but shouldn’t be surprising: Philips AVENT Anti-colic bottles result in 60% less fussiness than other leading anti-colic bottle brands.

As a work-from-home mama, I loved the fact that the Philips AVENT Anti-colic bottles have a valve integrated into the bottle – fewer parts to the bottle means fewer parts to wash! Plus, the nipple has a ribbed texture, which means less collapsing and more uninterrupted feeding. I’m also a big fan of the shape of the bottle. Most 8-ounce bottles are long and clumsy for both baby and parent to hold, but my son, at only 4 months, could easily grasp the more boxy shape of the bottle in his hands; I felt that the weight distribution of the formula in the bottle made it easy for me to feed him in the middle of the night without my hand cramping up. I also couldn’t believe how much easier the Anti-colic bottles were to carry in my diaper bag. I’m so glad that Philips AVENT created a bottle which truly helps reduce colic and discomfort, which makes life a little easier for baby and parents, too!

*At 2 weeks of age, babies fed with a Philips AVENT Anti-colic bottle showed a trend to less colic than babies fed with a conventional bottle and a trend toward less fussing at night than babies fed with a competitor’s vented bottle.
